Saint John Energy crews continue to work on repairs to underground equipment at the corner of Sydney Street and King’s Square South following a power outage in parts of the uptown last night.

Saint John Energy spokesperson Jessica DeLong tells newsysj.ca approximately 1000 customers in parts of the uptown including the Irving Oil headquarters building lost power around 5:45 last night. DeLong says 850 customers had power restored at 6:30 while 149 were restored about 45 minutes later. Only one customer – the Irving Oil building remains without power this morning. She says crews should have the building restored by 10 o’clock.

Some customers in the uptown who didn’t lose power report lights flickering and electronics beeping or rebooting around 5:45 last night. Some people were commenting on social media about hearing an explosion in the area.
