A lot of ideas coming out of a virtual open house last night on reworking public spaces along Market Square and the Fundy Quay development hosted by the City.

The project will include a revamping of the Loyalist Plaza area – extension of Harbour Passage around the Fundy Quay development – and a pedway linking Market Square and Fundy Quay. City Commissioner Brent McGovern says we are looking for ideas on how “we can transform the public edge of the city’s waterfront.”

Some of the ideas floated during break-out sessions included more activity featuring not only entertainment but things like a night market. Other suggestions included making the redesign offers opportunity for use during all seasons – perhaps with a skating rink and fire pits in the winter. There were suggestions of public art – both active and passive recreational opportunities and more availability of temporary mooring for pleasure craft.

Landscape architects from the Glenn Group have met with businesses at Market Square as part of the process. Dan Glenn says they will be back for more public input once a conceptual design for the area is completed.
