December has kicked off with a bang at the American Iron and Metal operation on the west side of the port. The operation had to shut down yesterday following an explosion that exceeded noise levels in the company’s provincial approval to operate. This morning there was another explosion at the site.
In a statement forwarded to newsysj.ca late this afternoon – Environment Minister Gary Crossman says “AIM Recycling is currently shutdown and given the frequency of recent explosions, the Department of Environment and Climate Change has decided to conduct a more in-depth investigation.”
Last night – Common Council approved a motion to send a letter to the provincial and federal governments as well as local MLAs – MP Wayne Long – and the Port. See story here.
The company responded to the issue on its Facebook page yesterday – see story here.
