

Common Council has given the go ahead to demolish two more abandoned buildings. The latest are units on Mecklenburg and Cliff Streets.
The Mecklenburg Street property is assessed at $143,000 with demolition estimated to cost $30,000 while the Cliff Street property is assessed at $78,700 with demolition expected to cost $40,000.
The city will bill the owners for the demolition costs and if left unpaid – the city will request the province to reimburse the costs.
Meantime – 50 files involving dangerous and dilapidated buildings were handled by the city last year. Staff reports two-thirds of the cases were repaired and re-occupied while the balance were demolished.
