Oromocto RCMP are reaching out to what they believe may be more victims of a man on Snapchat.
Police have charged 35 year old Daniel Leigh Hewitt of Hoyt with two counts of child luring – two counts of sexual assault – and two counts of sexual touching. He remains in custody pending a court appearance on April 26th.
The charges stem from reports of 2 incidents in the Model Town in late January involving teenaged girls who were lured to meet a man they communicated with on Snapchat. The Mounties say he used the display name “DL” and username “Standy506” on Snapchat – but – also may have used other social media platforms to communicate with other people.
Corporal Hans Ouellette says “Anyone who may have interacted with Daniel Leigh Hewitt on Snapchat, or on other social media platforms, is asked to contact police, we need to know if there are other possible victims so we can ensure a thorough investigation is conducted.”
Anyone who interacted with Daniel Leigh Hewitt on social media – or who has information that may help the investigation – is asked to contact the Oromocto RCMP at 506-357-3400. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) – by downloading the secure P3 Mobile App – or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
