Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr Jennifer Russell says the province will move to the Yellow Level at midnight Sunday as planned. But Russell says she is concerned about the recent rise in case numbers in the Miramichi region including one confirmed case of the U-K COVID variant. She says Public Health is ready to move quickly to impose restrictions on the region should the need arise.

Public Health held a mass clinic in Miramichi yesterday and 776 people turned out to be tested – another clinic is underway today – a third has been added for tomorrow.

Russell says there are four new cases of COVID confirmed since yesterday – three people in their fifties in the Miramichi region and one in their forties in the Fredericton River Valley zone – that case is travel related. And she says contact tracing show all cases in the Miramichi region so far are travel related.

Public Health reports 7 people recovered since yesterday. The number of active cases in the province now stands at 33 – none here in the Saint John region. Three people are in hospital – two in intensive care while the death toll stands at 28 since the beginning of the pandemic a year ago.
