You may notice a new addition on streets in your neighbourhood. A new tool to help slow traffic on some city streets is now making an appearance. Portable speed display signs are being set up on streets where residents have expressed concern about speeding.

The signs with the posted speed limit for the street will notify motorists when they are speeding and encourage them to slow to the posted limit. The signs are also collecting speed data to measure their performance.

The new signs are part of the City’s Traffic Calming Policy to immediately address speeding concerns. Some areas may need more permanent measures defined in the policy.

City Manager John Collin says the mobile units are not radar traps and no speeding tickets will be issued as a result of what is recorded on the sign.
