Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – says New Brunswick has so far not seen any indication of the new variants of COVID. Cases of the variants have been identified in other provinces including Nova Scotia.

As of this past Friday – Russell says 19 samples have been sent to the national lab in Winnipeg for analysis. She says 8 have come back negative with results from 6 more samples expected soon. Russell says more samples are being sent for analysis as the case numbers continue to rise in the province.

The new strains have a higher transmission rate than the original strain of COVID. Russell and other provincial government officials have been encouraging people across the province to stay at home as much as possible.
