St. John the Baptist – King Edward School in South End

A disappointment for supporters – the dream of a new school for the south central peninsula remains just that – a dream. The Education Department has released its capital budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year and there is no money to move the project forward to replace the aging St. John the Baptist – King Edward school. The proposal would see a combination of a community and educational focused facility.

The good news is the proposed project has moved up the list to garner third spot on the Department’s Priority Ranking List for school infrastructure projects for 2021-22. The number one project on the list – a new Killarney Lake K-5 school in the Fredericton area – is getting 3-million dollars for planning and a construction start in the coming year.

The department will spend almost 73-million dollars in the coming year to continue school projects underway – equipment – and improvements to existing buildings.
