Outgoing Mayor Don Darling says it’s time for a long-term plan when it comes to murals in the city. In a Tweet last night – Darling says he is a huge supporter of “professional” murals and he thinks Sussex has done “an amazing job” with murals in the Dairy Town.

Over the years – community activists local groups – and budding artists have come together to paint murals on sides of buildings – cement retaining walls – and overpasses in a bid to brighten neighbourhoods around the city. Some of those murals have fallen victim to weather and time – and – are fading apparently without any plan for maintenance.

Darling says he believes no other murals should be added in Saint John without a long term plan – and – “without those murals being completed by professional artists.”
