As provinces including New Brunswick deal with an onslaught of COVID variant related cases – the Federal Government has announced it will fund research on the virus variants. Health Minister Patty Hajdu says 14.3 million dollars will made available through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to support new research on the COVID variants.

The money includes $5.3 million in supplementary funds for 90 ongoing COVID-19 research projects and $9 million for a new national network that will “coordinate and align variants research throughout the country.

This latest round of funding is in addition to approximately $250 million the Canadian Institutes of Health Research has invested so far in over 400 other COVID research projects.
