The day is dawning with a yellow glow across the province with all regions in the Yellow Level of alert for the first time in months. Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – announced yesterday the Edmundston region would move from the Orange to Yellow Level at midnight joining the rest of the province.
The Edmundston region has been under a series of restrictions including a full LOCKDOWN since the beginning of the year thanks to a significant outbreak driven by the highly contagious U-K COVID variant. The outbreak ravaged a number of care homes in the region while the Edmundston Hospital was stretched to the limit and was forced to send some patients to other hospitals for treatment.
Russell is asking all New Brunswickers to remain vigilant and follow all Public Health guidelines. Four COVID variants have been identified in the province including the extremely contagious Brazilian and India variants with their severe symptoms.
A total of 2013 cases of COVID have been confirmed in the province since the beginning of the pandemic over a year ago with 1822 recoveries. The virus has claimed 41 New Brunswickers.
