Promotion of safe cycling in the city will get a boost tomorrow morning as part of a Council candidate’s campaign. Brent Harris and supporters will bike from the McAllister Mall to King’s Square and back.
In a release – Harris says the route will include Bayside Drive where a cyclist was killed in an accident last November. He says it’s a main route that does not include barriers or markings for cyclers – and – wants to raise awareness for the growing need and demand for safe cycling infrastructure. Harris and supporters are forming up near Sportcheck at 10 tomorrow morning.
Meantime – there has been growing discussion and support on social media for making city streets more people and cycling friendly. The City is working on a 25 year transportation plan – Move SJ – and is hosting a virtual Open House until April 09th to allow public input. This phase of the Move SJ effort is focused on feedback on developing strategies for cycling – road safety – roundabouts – and recommendations for road network improvements and support for sustainable transportation methods. The virtual Open House survey and related documents can be found here.
