The growing pressure of the current COVID outbreak in the Edmundston region is affecting the city’s regional hospital admissions. The Vitalite Health Network says it has no choice but to limit new admissions to the hospital as much as possible.

In a release – the Health Authority says the U-K variant is hitting the Edmundston area with “unprecedented strength.” The Authority says many of the patients require acute care – and – the Intensive Care Unit is at capacity in its ability to provide “safe care to patients on respirators.”

The Agency says COVID patients requiring admission will be diverted to the Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. Non-COVID patients will be diverted to hospitals in Grand Falls – Saint Quentin – Campbellton – and Bathurst.

The Health Authority says it will re-assess the situation on Thursday.
