Another resident of the Manoir Belle Vue long term care home in Edmundston has died of complications including COVID-19. The person was in their eighties. The home has been dealing with an outbreak of the virus.

Public Health is reporting four new cases of COVID since yesterday – all in the Miramichi region. Meantime – one previously identified case of COVID in that region is now being classed as a “presumptive” case of the U-K variant. A sample is being sent to the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg for confirmation. Another case of COVID in the region has been confirmed at Miramichi Valley High School. The school is closed this week for March Break.

And Public Health says a recent confirmed case identified as the U-K variant in the Edmundston region has turned out to be the original COVID-19 virus. The national lab retested the sample after the lab at the Georges Dumont hospital noticed a discrepancy and requested the second look.

Public Health reports three people have recovered since yesterday and the number of active cases is 36 – none here in the Saint John region. Three people are in hospital – all in intensive care. The death toll now stands at 28 in the past year.
