Common Council has given final approval to changes in its Procedural By-Law that include how the Deputy Mayor is selected. The changes are in place in time for the new Council coming in following next Monday’s municipal election.
The Deputy Mayor will now be selected by a vote of Councillors. During the first meeting of a newly elected Council – those interested in becoming Deputy Mayor will identify themselves with Councillors voting at the next meeting. Currently the Deputy Mayor has been the one of the 2 Councillors at Large with the highest number of votes.
The revised By-Law also includes limiting speakers at public presentation to not more than 10 minutes – and – updated staff titles by replacing City Solicitor – Commissioner of Finance – and Common Clerk with General Counsel – Chief Financial Officer – and City Clerk.
