The City stands to receive an additional $4.6 million dollars in federal funding for capital projects.

Ottawa has proposed a one time $2.2 billion dollar investment to help address infrastructure priorities in municipalities and First Nations communities across the country. The funds would be distributed through the federal Gas Tax Fund.

In a release – the City says the additional cash would double the federal government’s regular funding for municipalities in 2020-21 – and – will help reduce the “risk of infrastructure projects being cancelled due to the pandemic.”

Details on the additional funds and what projects will be funded by the extra cash will be revealed in open sessions of the Finance Committee and Common Council meetings as they become available.
