Saint John Common Council Chamber

Common Council is facing a busy agenda for tonight’s council meeting. Among the items on the agenda is a proposal to increase the fine for parking tickets by $10. Council is also being asked to approve increases for rentals of city sports fields – arena floors in the off season – and tennis courts.

Another item on the agenda is a recommendation to establish a Civic Commemoration Committee to guide council through the naming of public spaces including requests from residents for the renaming of spaces – and – the placing of plaques monuments on city property. Council is also being asked to approve development of a policy for future place naming that will include input from organizations representing Black and Indigenous residents.

Council will also receive a “formal” presentation by the Saint John Police Commission on its 24.2-million dollar budget for 2021.
