NB Health Minister Dorothy Shephard

Health Minister Dorothy Shephard is promising a straight forward conversation on the rollout of COVID vaccines this week. Shephard says the update will include a clear definition of “herd immunity” and how it relates to the administration of the vaccines.

Both Shephard and Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – have repeatedly said they were hoping to have all vulnerable residents of long term care facilities vaccinated by the end of next month. But – there have been delays at the federal level in receiving doses of both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.

As of last week – the province had received 21,675 doses of vaccines with 17,277 doses administered to long term care residents and front line healthcare workers. Public Health says 4460 people have received both doses of the vaccines with 4398 doses being held for second doses and planned clinics last week.
