A recall of apricot kernels has been expanded to include “Apricot Power Bitter Raw Apricot Seeds” on the national level. The product joins “Organic Traditions Dried Bitter Apricot Kernels” being recalled after testing revealed high levels of amygdalin which can release cyanide after being eaten.
The body can eliminate small amounts of cyanide – but – larger amounts can result in cyanide poisoning which could lead to death.
Also on the list is “Earth Notions Raw Bitter Apricot Kernels” sold on the internet. Other brands sold only in Ontario and points west are also included in the recall.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the recalled products should thrown in the garbage or returned to the store where they were purchased. Full details on the recall can be found here.
