The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health remains concerned about the possibility of the COVID variant finding its way to New Brunswick. The new strain has been confirmed in other provinces including neighbouring Nova Scotia.
Dr Jennifer Russell says 19-samples have been sent to the national lab in Winnipeg so far. She says 14 have come back negative while results for 5 of the tests are still pending.
Russell says she is concerned because of how quickly the new variants can spread. Statistics show the transmission rate is much higher than the original COVID virus.
