Revisions to the city’s Winter Street Management plan have been approved by council. The revision sees some sidewalks earmarked for snow clearing that were cut in the original proposal following feedback from residents – Saint John Transit – and the School District.

The loop through Silver Falls has been brought back into the plan along with the sidewalk along the east side of Rothesay Avenue between Ashburn Lake Road and Russell Street. Tim Street has also been added back into the mix.

Not all sitting around the council horseshoe desk were happy. Councillor Greg Norton says he can see the “big picture” but as a ward councillor he feels the west side is receiving less service than other areas. Similar sentiments were echoed by Mayor Don Darling – a former west side resident now living in the city centre. Both question whether residents are getting the best return on investment for the six million dollars being spent on snow removal.
