There is a report of a train derailment west of Edmundston. New Brunswick Emergency Measures tweeted six hours ago it was monitoring a derailment and “there is no identified threat to the public.”

RCMP report Highway 120 in the area of the derailment is closed with traffic being detoured around the site.

Update 11:35am – The Baker Brook fire department is reporting Route 120 in the area of the derailment west of Edmundston remains closed – and – may be closed for up to 3-days. Apparently 22-cars have derailed – no fire – no spills – no injuries reported.

Update 8:50am – In an email response to our questions – a Transportation Safety Board spokesperson says the agency is aware of the situation – and – it is currently “assessing the occurrence.”

Update 7:50am – The Edmundston fire department’s Hazardous Materials unit initially responded to the scene. A fire department spokesman tells newsysj.ca the unit has since cleared the scene.
