As suggested at a Sunday news conference – Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – says the Saint John – Moncton – and Fredericton River Valley regions are going to the RED Level at midnight. The move brings tighter restrictions including the closing of some businesses.
The move comes as 31-new cases were confirmed in the past 24-hours – including three here in the Saint John region. There are now 316-active cases in the province with one person in hospital.
And both Russell and Premier Blaine Higgs telegraphed the distinct possibility the province is headed for a complete lockdown by the end of the week. Russell says we have surpassed the 100-case mark with 400-of those cases reported in the last 30-days.
Currently just over 1950-people are self-isolating including 76-healthcare workers. The number of cases in the Moncton – Saint John – and Fredericton River Valley regions has doubled then doubled again in the past two weeks. She says there are some unlinked chains of transmission that are close to being determined as community transmission. Higgs says we haven’t been at this stage before – and – calls it a turning point for our province.
