A “Rainfall Warning” has been issued for the Saint John area as a messy weather system approaches. The forecast says the rain will move into the area later today – continuing overnight – and ending tomorrow. The rain will be heavy at times and will be accompanied by gusty winds. Currently – we are expected to receive up to 30-mm of rain before the system moves out. There is a chance of a period of freezing rain tonight.
City crews have been preparing for the worse case scenario. Trucks are loaded with barricades in case streets or neighbourhoods flood. They are also checking to make sure storm drains are clear. The city is asking for some help with that task. There are over 6000-storm drains and crews won’t be able to check all of them – so if there is storm drain on the street by your property – you are being asked to check to make sure it is clear of any ice and snow.
