A ban on single use plastic shopping bags has been given final approval by Common Council. The By-Law was drafted after Council received a request from the Fundy Regional Services Commission.
The Commission says the market for recycled plastic bags “has evaporated” and the bags are now ending up in the Crane Mountain landfill.
There are some exceptions to the ban which are spelled out in the new By-Law becomes effective July 01st.
The complete By-Law can be viewed in the complete Council package here.
