
A recall has been issued for “Organic Traditions Dried Bitter Apricot Kernels.” The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says you should not consume the product because it contains excessive amounts of amygdalin which may cause acute cyanide poisoning.
The Agency says apricot kernels naturally contain amygdalin which can release cyanide after consumption. The body can eliminate small amounts of cyanide – but – larger amounts can result in cyanide poisoning which could result in death.
So far – no illnesses associated with consumption of the product have been reported. If you have the product – you should either throw it in the garbage or return it to the store where it was purchased. More details can be found here.
