The provincial Child Death Review Committee is not making any recommendations following the review of the deaths of three children. The Committee reviews the deaths of children under the age of 19 including those in the care of the Minister of Social Development or those whose families were in contact with the department 12 months prior to the child’s death.
The three cases include a 4-year old boy who died of complications of an existing condition while the family was receiving services from the department – an 18-month old girl who died in an accidental fire while the family was receiving services from the department – and – a 17-year old boy who died in a single vehicle crash while he was receiving services from the department at the time of his death.
The results of the Committee’s reviews were released by Chief Coroner Jérôme Ouellette.
