New Brunswick health officials are struggling with more active cases of COVID than at any other time since the beginning of the pandemic. As of yesterday – there 130-active cases in the province with one person in hospital in intensive care.
Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – says so far there has not been any indication of the new variants of the virus first spotted in the United Kingdom and South Africa – and – now in some provinces. Russell says if they suspect someone testing positive may have the new strain – samples are sent to the national Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg for confirmation.
And Russell warns transmission rates of the new variant are high so if there is an outbreak – it will be hard to contain.
