Two Hampton RCMP officers are being credited with rescuing a 57-year old woman lost in the woods in the Kingston area Tuesday night. Police received a call around 7pm about a woman in mental distress missing from a home on Route 850 since mid-afternoon.
Constables Jonathan Murphy and John Thompson noticed foot tracks going into the woods and borrowed snowshoes from a neighbour. They tracked the woman’s foot prints in the dark for about three kilometres – and – found her around 10:30 that night stuck in mud after falling near a creek.
They helped her to a nearby home where she was met by paramedics and transported to the Regional Hospital to be checked. She was later released. The Mounties say finding the woman quickly was critical with the cold weather and darkness otherwise the outcome could have been tragic.
