RCMP say a member of the Codiac Regional detachment in Moncton has tested positive for COVID. Police say the officer was exposed to the virus while responding to a disturbance call last Wednesday.

While on scene they learned one of the individuals involved had tested positive for COVID. A spokesperson says the officers were wearing masks and as soon as they became aware of the positive case – they followed protocols including rigorous sanitizing of equipment – self isolation for the officers involved – and COVID testing.

The Mounties are working with Public Health to provide extensive contact tracing information for members of the public who may have had contact with the affected officers. They says as it is possible the exposure was unrelated to the call – the contact tracing includes a window prior to the incident on January 27th. Testing and other measures are also underway for RCMP employees with potential exposure.
