The Saint John Fire Department has a new tool in its rescue kit. The department recently received an inflatable boat known as a “Rapid Deployment Craft.”
The boat is used for rescues involving people who have fallen through thin ice on rivers and lakes or are injured on a frozen waterway and unable to move. Ice rescues especially those involving thin ice scenarios can be extremely dangerous for victims and rescue workers.

Fire fighters began training with the new boat on Wednesday and that training is expected to continue over the next few weeks.
