Premier Blaine Higgs says increased enforcement of Orange Level restrictions will continue in the battle to control a spike in the number of COVID cases in the province. The Fredericton central zone of the province is going into the Orange Level at midnight tonight. Both the Saint John and Moncton regions have at the Orange Level since late last. week with stepped up surveillance.
Premier Higgs says there have been over 400 inspections carried out in Saint John and Moncton since last weekend with 71-fines handed out and 146-compliance letters issued to businesses. The Premier says full compliance is expected and he is asking for patience as officers do their job.
Last weekend – approximately 70 peace officers from the Department of Justice and Public Safety along with RCMP – Saint John Police – and Worksafe NB inspectors took part in an enforcement blitz in the Saint John and Moncton regions.
All people travelling into the province from any part of Canada – including the other Atlantic provinces – must pre-register. Higgs says failure to do so will result in fines being handed out.
