It looks like Shubenacadie Sam won’t be seeing his shadow on Ground Hog Day – the good news is it means an early end to winter – the bad news is a “Special Weather Statement” has been issued for New Brunswick. The weather statement warns a significant weather system will move through the area on Tuesday. The storm is predicted to bring up to 30-cms of snow in the northern part of the province with up to 30-mm of rain here in the south.
However – we are not getting off that easy here in the south – precipitation is expected to begin as snow then change to rain. That is where it gets interesting – during the change over period we are forecast to be on the receiving end of ice pellets or freezing rain. Strong easterly winds will accompany the storm system.
Meantime – the arctic outflow continues over our region this morning with a cold start to the day. Currently the feels like temperature is minus 24. It will be a sunny and cold day with the feels like temperature hovering in the minus 7 range due to gusty northerly winds.
