The Higgs government is making $720,000 available to keep Maritime Bus service running through to Edmundston and Campbellton. The funding is designed to help Maritime Bus cover losses due to the pandemic – but – the company must guarantee the service will continue through the end of this year. The company was about to shut down the runs due to significant drops in passenger volumes.

Half of the money is coming through the federal Safe Restart Agreement to help provinces restart their economies affected by the COVID pandemic. New Brunswick received a total of 41-million dollars under the municipalities section of the agreement.

Saint John Transit as well as public transit systems in Moncton and Fredericton received funding under the program.
