Following Friday’s announcement of federal and provincial funding for the Fundy Quay development on the former Coast Guard site – Common Council tonight is being asked to approve the city’s share of funding. If approved – the city will be contributing just over $9,000,000 to help fund preparation and clean-up of the site – extension and upgrading of the Boardwalk and Harbour Passage in the area – and an update to Loyalist Plaza. Saint John based Fundy Quay Developments is planning a mixed residential and commercial concept for the waterfront area with total investment expected to exceed $300,000,000.
Council is also expected to approve a recommendation from its Finance Committee to move forward with a 1 cent tax cut in the 2022 budget.
And council will also decide whether to send a proposed 120 unit luxury retirement community on Sandy Point Road to its Planning Advisory Committee for review or reject the proposal. Over 50 documents objecting to the proposal have been received from residents in the area.
Tonight’s virtual meeting starts at 6.
