An early evening blaze has destroyed an apartment building on First Street in the North End. Fire fighters at one point thought the blaze was knocked down only to have flames suddenly break through on another side of the building.
The fire appears to have started in a lower floor apartment. There is no word on a cause at this point. It appears everyone and their pets managed to get out safely with no reports of any injuries while two fire fighters were treated for minor injuries.
