If you live in East Saint John and were awakened early this morning by the wailing of sirens and perhaps the dull thud of steel – fibreglass – and glass colliding – here is what happened. A 24 year old man is facing a variety of charges following a chase and crash in the eastern part of the city earlier today. Police say they attempted to stop a vehicle around 4 this morning – the driver apparently wanted none of that and hit the gas pedal.

When police caught up with the vehicle – they say it rammed a police cruiser causing “significant damage.” Officers removed the driver from his vehicle and he was sent to the Regional Hospital with minor injuries while the officers in the rammed cruiser weren’t seriously hurt.

Charges the driver is facing include possession of a stolen vehicle – driving related offences – and weapon offences.
