Public Health is reporting 16 new cases of COVID in the province since yesterday – most of those cases in the two hotspots – the Edmundston and Moncton regions.

The Edmundston region saw the largest increase with 9 new cases while Moncton posted five new cases. There was one new case in the Fredericton River Valley region and one new case in the Bathurst region.

Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – says most of the Edmundston cases are related to outbreaks at long term care facilities in that region. She does say the numbers in both hotspots are beginning to trend in the right direction and restrictions could be relaxed as early as next week. The Edmundston region is in LOCKDOWN while the Moncton region remains at the RED Level with the rest of the province at the Orange Level.

There are now 256 active cases in the province including 13 here in the Saint John region. Public Health says 24 people have recovered in the past 24-hours while 5 people are in hospital – two in intensive care. There have been 18 COVID related deaths since the pandemic was declared almost 11-months ago.
