Public Health reports 16 new cases of COVID in the province today – most of them travel related. Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – says the growing number of travel related cases is concerning especially with the highly contagious COVID variants. She also says there have been instances where travellers are not isolating properly.
The breakdown of cases 8 in the Bathurst and Acadien Peninsula region all travel outside the province – four in the Moncton region with three of those travel related while the other is under investigation – two here in the Saint John region both travel related – and just 2 new cases in the Edmundston region which are contacts of a previously identified case. Russell says 11 of the cases are actually workers who are self isolating outside of the province.
The number of active cases is 148 with 13 of those here in the Saint John region. Thirteen people are in hospital – 5 of them in intensive care. The COVID death toll remains at 34.
