Public Health is confirming a person in their thirties has died of COVID related complications in the Edmundston region. A family member posted word of the man’s death on Facebook last night. The post said the man was in intensive care at the Edmundston hospital. The COVID related death toll now stands at 31.

The Edmundston region remains the centre of COVID cases – Public Health says 11 of the 14 cases confirmed today are in that region. Eight of the cases are under investigation while three are related to the outbreak at the Foyer St Jacques special care home in Edmundston.

Two of the remaining 3 new cases are in the Moncton region with one case travel related while the other is under investigation. And the final case is in the Fredericton River Valley region and is travel related.

Public Health has listed 12 people as recovered since yesterday. The number of active cases is now at 163 including 12 in the Saint John region. Eighteen people are in hospital including 12 in intensive care.

Public Health has not issued any updates on whether recent cases are either confirmed as variants or “presumptive” cases – nor – has there been any update on the actual number of confirmed variant cases in the province
