The patient crunch continues at the Edmundston hospital as it struggles with increased patients loads due to the ongoing COVID outbreak in the region.
The Vitalite Health Network says the hospital has 13 COVID-19 patients – 8 of them in intensive care and all are on respirators. The intensive care unit only has 9 beds.
Only one patient has been transferred to the Chalmers hospital in Fredericton – that happened yesterday after the regional health authority announced it was limiting new admissions due to the increasing number of COVID patients in the Edmundston region.
Eleven new cases were confirmed in the region today bringing the number of active cases in the region to 131. A 38-year old man who was in intensive care at the Edmundston hospital died yesterday of COVID related complications bringing the COVID death toll to 31.
