With tropical storm Elsa making its way up the east coast in our direction – City crews are preparing for the worst. The storm is expected to downgraded to a post tropical storm as it passes through our region tonight into Saturday bringing heavy rain and strong winds.

Crews have been checking catch basins and will be monitoring culverts – drains – as well as waste water collection systems and lift stations. Tree crews will be on stand-by to deal with fallen trees and limbs.

You are being cautioned to stay away from shorelines and beaches during the storm and you should secure patio furniture and barbecues. Saint John Emergency Management is recommending you have a 72-hour emergency kit ready due to the possibility of flash flooding and power outages.
