Premier Blaine Higgs says we can’t do enough to prevent the spread of COVI-19 and its variants – one of which has now been confirmed in three people in the province. Higgs says the variants present an even greater risk to the province because of how highly contagious they are.
Higgs says there is an ongoing evaluation of travel requirements and every move of travellers – and – the Premier isn’t ruling out asking for additional resources such as the military to help tighten our borders if the need arises.
Meantime – Higgs says the slow rollout of vaccines will be at the top of the list during a call with the Prime Minister and provincial colleagues tomorrow evening. The Premier says about one in four nursing home residents has received at least one dose of a COVID vaccine. He says just over ten thousand of the more than 27,000 healthcare workers including staff in Long Term Care homes have received at least one dose of vaccine. And the Premier says more than 1300 people are scheduled to receive their second dose of Moderna vaccine this week.
The latest stats show just over 17,000 doses of vaccines have been administered with 4460-people fully vaccinated after receiving their second doses. The province has received 21,675 doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines so far with 4398 doses being held for second doses and planned clinics.
