The provincial Child Death Review Committee has released its report into the deaths of two more children whose families were known to the Department of Social Development. And like a previous report two weeks ago – there are no recommendations being made.
One case involves the death of a 16-year old boy who died of a gunshot wound while his family was receiving care from the department. The committee is making no recommendation in the case.
The second involves the death of a six month old girl whose family was receiving services from the department. The cause of death could not be determined – but – “it could be associated with unsafe sleeping conditions.” The committee is also making no recommendation in this case.
Late last month – the committee released a report on the review of deaths of three children without any recommendations. The committee reviews the deaths of children under 19 who are in legal care of or whose families were in contact with the department within 12-months prior to the child’s death.
