A Miramichi woman who lives in the Shannex complex in that city is the first New Brunswicker to receive the Pfizer COVID vaccine. 84-year old Pauline Gauvin received her shot this morning at the first of two weekend clinics for priority groups being held at the Miramichi hospital.

The needle was administered by Horizon Health Public Health nurse Nanette Noel with 31-years experience. Noel also gave her daughter Nicolette her shot today. Nicolette is a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at the Miramichi Hospital. She was the first health care worker in the province to receive the vaccination. Mom Nanette says her daughter told her that “I give a great needle.”

The province received its first allotment of 1950-doses of the vaccine earlier in the week with more expected to arrive this coming week. Front line health care workers including doctors – nurses – and paramedics are also receiving the vaccine. Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – says she is hoping to have all New Brunswickers wanting the vaccine to have received it by late June or July.
