Partridge Island (Rebecca Beaulieu Image)

Two more people have been rescued from Partridge Island. Saint John Fire/Rescue responded just after 5:30 this afternoon when 2 people called for help to get off the island.

Fire fighters were on their way across the breakwater when the Coast Guard dispatched a boat to get the pair back to the mainland. The man and woman in their twenties were handed over to paramedics to be checked for possible hypothermia.

The rock breakwater connecting the main shore line to Partridge Island is a challenge to cross in good weather but becomes slippery and extremely difficult to cross in wet weather. The breakwater and island are no trespassing zones – but – people regularly ignore the regulations and venture over to the island.
