Two Canadians returning on a flight from Mexico last month have been fined for providing a false COVID-19 test and making a false declaration about their health status.

Transport Canada’s investigation found they knowingly boarded a flight from Mexico to Canada on January 23rd after testing positive for COVID-19 only a few days before their flight.

Transport Canada fined one person $10,000 and the other $7000 following an investigation. Government regulations state travellers must obtain a negative COVI-19 molecular test within 72 hours of boarding any flight for Canada or proof of a positive test result within 14 days of boarding the flight. Passengers are also prohibited from knowingly providing false COVID-19 test documentation.
