NB Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – on testing backlog

Provincial public health officials are working to clear any backlog in testing for the Corona virus in the Saint John region. That move comes as five more confirmed cases are reported today three of them here in the Saint John area.

Chief Medical Officer of Health – Dr Jennifer Russell – says the capacity at the testing facility on Ropewalk Road with a new facility being added on the Rothesay Road which will be operational tomorrow.

The new cases in our region include two people 19 and under and one in their thirties. The other two cases are in the Moncton region – both in their twenties. Both Saint John and Moncton remain in the Orange Level with more restrictions including the wearing of masks in all public spaces – indoors and outdoors. Russell says all cases in the Saint John area have been linked.

The second wave of the pandemic currently hitting the province has claimed one life – a person in their 80’s in the Saint John region. The patient passed away Sunday from a number of medical complications including COVID-19.
