Christmas Day 2020 is going into the weather record book – Environment Canada says yesterday’s high hit 14.9 Celsius breaking a record high of 12.8 Celsius set December 25th in 2003. The weather data covers a 73-year period. For perspective – the average high for December 25th is minus 1.1 Celsius.
We came close to matching the record rainfall for Christmas Day – we received 27.8mm of rain yesterday – just shy of the 29.7mm record set in 1965.
A Rainfall Warning remains in effect for our area with another 20 to 30mm expected today with a possible change to a rain – snow mix this afternoon as the temperature begins to drop. The wind will remain strong with gusts reaching up to 70-km/h into this afternoon.
